Selecting the photo’s that go to print in a publication is a very important part of the Post Production process. It is one tough decision after another. We have professional software with tools to help us make those decisions and help us compare and decide on which shots get printed and which ones don’t. On some occasions the better shots might not make it to print.
I know that sounds crazy, but it is with very good reason. Only so many shots can be chosen for the final product and with everything you have to take into account the “Big Picture” and I don’t mean the largest photo when I say this. I mean the whole layout has to be taken into account and how the images work with each other.
Models have a variety of poses and expressions and very often they will pose similar to each other.
If you have different shots of different models in different clothes, you wouldn’t want to print models doing the same or similar poses on the same page. So as you can see, you might have two great shots, but for this reason only one of them will make the final cut. So what happens to all those other great shots? Most of the time you will never see them. That is a sad thing. So now I have a blog going I’m going to try and post at least a few more shots from each shoot I do. Everybody works so hard on these shoots and it’s a shame to bury the images on a hard drive for ever. BTW I drafted this blog post earlier and as a bit of fun set it to publish at 12:12 on 12/12/12 :`)
